Brian Coates, Chair
Brian was born in Newcastle and has lived in Gateshead since 1970. A local authority councillor for 20 years, Brian served as the mayor of Gateshead 1999-2000 and is now an alderman.
Angela Currie, Vice Chair
Angela is a Gateshead native and life-long resident. She worked for the local authority as a cook supervisor before retirement and is an active volunteer in our social groups and community café.
Marion McMahon, Treasurer
Marion was born in Gateshead and was self-employed in a fair trade business before retiring. In addition to serving as the Assembly's treasurer, she also volunteers in our community café every week.
Iris was born in Gateshead and worked for the local authority for 26 years before retiring. Iris has been involved with Gateshead Older People's Assembly from its inception.
Alan was born in Felling and served in the RAF for 10 years. He worked abroad for an additional decade before returning to Gateshead to take up work on the Team Valley Trading Estate until retirement. Alan is active in ex-service associations, union activities, and is also a governor at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
June was born in Gateshead and spent many years teaching in London and Sheffield before returning to Gateshead to complete her career.
Born and raised in Gateshead, Maureen worked for the local authority before retirement. She is an active volunteer in our community café and is a member of two of our social groups.
Originally from Burundi, Joice has lived in Gateshead for a number of years. She is an active member of her local community and attends two of our social groups.
Sue is the Nurse Lead for Gateshead’s GP Transformation Project.
Originally from Yorkshire, Margaret moved to the area to be closer to family. Margaret volunteers as the coordinator of one of our social groups.
Hazel was born in Blaydon and is a life-long Gateshead resident. She was an RVS Community Service Manager until her retirement in 2001.
